작가소개

작가는 유리 조형 작가로 불과 유리의 만남으로 다양한 표현방식의 시도를 통해 재료의 물성과 표현 방법을 끊임없이 연구하고 있다.
이번 작업은 1,200도의 고온에서 액체로 녹은 유리를 빠르고 섬세한 손놀림과 고도의 집중력을 발휘해 작업하는 기법인 램프 워킹 기법과, 1,200도에서 녹아 있는 액체 상태의 유리를 파이프에 찍어내 풍선처럼 불며 빠른 손놀림으로 작품을 만드는 블로잉 기법으로 작업하였다.
기법과 더불어 유리의 투명성, 굴절, 반사, 그림자 등 유리의 물성은 작품의 중요한 요소로 활용된다.

코로나19가 장기화하며 우리의 일상에 많은 변화가 일어나고 있고, 이전과 이후의 삶의 형태는 너무 많이 달라졌다.
코로나19 이전의 사회로 돌아갈 수 있을까? 물음에 대한 답을 구하기 전에 우리는 먼저 왜 이런 재앙이 닥치게 되었는지 자신을 스스로 돌아봐야 한다.

코로나의 역설! 코로나 팬데믹은 인간들의 활동이 그동안 지구 환경 파괴에 얼마나 결정적인 영향을 미치고 있었는지 깨닫게 되었다.

무분별한 난개발, 자연과의 공존을 거부한 인간의 욕망. 코로나19는 우리 인간에게 지구가 보내는 경고의 메시지가 아닐까? 변화된 삶을 통해 앞으로 세계가 진정으로 개선해야 할 것은 무엇일까? 코로나 시대에 접어든 일상의 관찰을 통해 자연과 인간의 관계를 작품으로 재해석하여 관객과 소통하고자 한다. 또한 관객과 작품 간의 상호작용, 관람객들이 보다 다양한 미적 체험, 이미지의 향유를 끌어낼 수 있도록 대화를 시도한다.

Introduction of Artist

This artist works with glass and continuously studies the properties and expression methods of materials through by trying out various expression methods through the meeting of fire and glass.
The works were carried out using the lamp working technique in which glass melted at temperatures of 1,200 degrees are worked on with quick and precise hand work and extreme concentration, and the blowing technique of taking glass melted at 1,200 degrees and taking out with a pipe and blowing it like a balloon with quick hand work.
In addition to the techniques, the properties of the glass such as its transparency, refraction, reflection, shadow, etc. are also important elements for the works.

As COVID-19 prolongs, there have been many changes in our daily lives and the mode of our life before and after the pandemic has changed considerably.
Will we ever return to the pre-COVID society? Before searching for answers to this question, we should first look back on ourselves on why we are facing such a disaster.

The paradox of coronavirus! This COVID-19 pandemic makes us realize just how much human activities had decisive impact on destroying earth’s environment.

Reckless development and human desires that refused to coexist with nature. Perhaps COVID-19 is a warning message by Earth to humans. What improvements are truly needed for the world through the changes in our lives? Through observations of daily life in the age of COVID-19, the relationship of nature and humans is reinterpreted in works to communicate with the audience. Also, attempts are made for dialog on the interaction between the audience and work and so that the audience can enjoy more diverse aesthetic experiences and images.

권재현

작가소개

청주 출신으로 홍익대학교 미술대학 목 조형 가구학과와 건축대학 실내건축학과를 졸업하였다. 입시 미술을 하지 않고 미술대학에 입학하여 기존의 방식과는 다르게 자신만의 부단한 노력으로 기본기와 실력을 쌓았다. 가구와 건축 공부를 병행하며 가구와 그것이 놓이는 공간에 대한 수많은 고찰 속에 작업을 하며 학부 생활을 마쳤다. 공간을 점유함으로써 사람과 공간과 행위를 자연스럽게 융화시키는 가구를 만들기 위한 고민을 해왔고,
최근에는 사람들의 라이프 스타일에 맞춘 가구의 기능에 집중하는 작업을 하고 있다.

작품소개

‘Long Playing Console’은 아날로그 레코드판을 가장 완벽하게 들을 수 있는 콘솔이다. 이 작품은 레코드판과 이를 재생하는 턴테이블, 그리고 스피커를 각각 알맞게 보관할 수 있도록 설계되어 있으며, 레트로한 행위가 이뤄지는 콘솔을 그린 컬러와 함께 모던한 디자인으로 풀어내어 ‘모던 레트로’ 콘셉트로 제작되었다.
LP의 둥근 모양이나 촉감 혹은 오래된 냄새를 좋아한다거나, 잊힌 노래를 다시 꺼내 듣거나 아니면 LP를 턴테이블 위에 놓는 그 행위 자체를 좋아해서 취미로 삼는 사람들이 있다. 사용자의 취향에 따라 무엇을 들을지 신중히 고민한 뒤 앨범을 고르고 LP판을 꺼내 조심스레 바늘을 올려놓는다면 혼자서 노래를 즐기거나 긴 밤 동안 사유를 할 만할 것이다. 듣고 싶은 앨범을 고른 뒤 턴테이블의 먼지 덮개를 연상시키는 콘솔의 덮개를 열어보아도 된다. 자리에 앉아 음악을 들으며 사유에 잠겨보길 바란다.

Introduction of Artist

After growing up in Cheongju, he enrolled and graduated from the Hongik University College of Fine Arts Department of Woodworking and Furniture Design and the College of Architecture Interior Architecture Major. He was accepted by the College of Fine Arts without attending private academies to study for entrance exams for art schools and took a different path than the conventional one to gain fundamentals and advanced skills through his own hard work. He studied both furniture and architecture and completed his undergraduate studies while working in deep contemplation about furniture and the space it is placed in. He thought hard about making furniture that naturally integrates people, space and behavior by occupying a space,
and recently, he has been focusing on the functions of furniture according to the lifestyles of people.

Introduction of Works

‘Long Playing Console’ is a console that allows the most perfect listening of analog records. This piece was designed to be able to store the records and the turntable for playing it, and speakers separately. The console in which such a retro behavior is carried out was produced with a green color and modern design under a concept of ‘modern retro’.
There are people who enjoy the round shape of LPs, how it feels, or its old smell, or the act of listening to forgotten songs or simply placing an LP on top of a turntable. Deliberating about what to listen according to the tastes of the user to select the album, and taking out the LP and carefully placing the stylus on top of it alone is enough to enjoy listening to music alone or to think throughout a long night. After selecting an album that you want to listen to, one will open the console cover that resembles the dust cover of the turntable. I hope that you sit down, listen to the music, and drown in your thoughts.

작가소개

스스로가 유리처럼 투명하고 아름다운 존재인 것을 모르고 주변의 색으로 덮어버렸던 과거처럼 유리 위에 칠을 덮는다. 기억이 하나하나 쌓이듯 또다시 칠 위에 다른 색으로 칠을 덮는다. 칠하고 덮고를 반복하다가 다시 돌아봐야 할 때 덮었던 칠들을 벗겨낸다. 하나하나 덮여있던 옻칠의 색을 되돌아보며 지난 기억을 떠올린다. 좋은 기억이든 나쁜 기억이든 다 벗겨내다 보면 마지막엔 그 본래 투명하고 아름다웠던 유리가 보인다.

작품소개

유리는 그 자체로도 다양한 색감을 낼 수 있고 옻칠 또한 특유의 많은 색감을 가지고 있다. 이를 만나게 하면 저 자신도 예측하지 못했던 무궁무진한 색감과 마주하게 된다.
옻칠과 유리의 색감이 잘 보일 수 있게 기획했다. 사실 유리는 투명하고 옻칠은 불투명하기에 그 상반된 특성을 골고루 보여주기엔 어려운 부분이 많지만, 이번 작품들을 통해 유리와 옻칠이 가지고 있는 각기 다른 물성과 빛깔을 함께 느낄 수 있길 바란다.

Introduction of Artist

Lacquer is applied on top of glass like our past that is covered with surrounding colors not knowing that one is transparent and beautiful like glass. The glass is covered with different colors of lacquer as if making one memory at a time. After repeatedly lacquering and covering, the lacquer is then removed when having to look back to the past. When looking back at the color of the lacquer that are layered on top of one another, past memories come to mind. Whether good or bad, once they are all removed, you will see the original transparent and beautiful glass.

Introduction of Works

Glass can have different colors on its own and lacquer also has many unique colors. When these meet, unlimited colors that nobody could have expected appear.
I tried to show the colors of the lacquer and glass well. Glass is transparent and lacquer is opaque, so there were difficulties in evenly showing the contrasting features, but I hope that through this work, the different properties and colors of glass and lacquer can be felt.

작가소개

청주대학교 대학원에서 유리공예를 전공하고 있다. 유리공예를 2017년에 접하게 되었고 2018년부터 시작했다. 그전까지는 금속공예를 하고 있었지만, 학부 수업 과정 중 블로잉 기법으로 유리 주전자를 만드는 것을 본 이후로 유리공예를 시작하게 되었다. 이전까지 알고 있던 유리의 모습은 차갑고 단단한 이미지였지만 그때 경험했던 유리의 이미지는 뜨거움과 부드러움이었다. 1,200도로 융해된 유리를 장난감처럼 다룰 수 있는 유리공예의 매력에 빠지게 된 것이다.
작업을 할 때는 주로 저녁 하늘의 노을이나 들판에 피어있는 꽃, 그리고 조약돌이나 고래의 곡선과 같은 자연을 통해 영감을 얻고 있다. 노을과 꽃의 다양한 색상들의 화려함, 고래의 형태에서 볼 수 있는 부드러운 곡선과 같은 자연의 형태와 색에서 영감을 얻는다.

작품소개

이번 작품의 콘셉트는 ‘프랙털’이다. 프랙털은 작은 구조가 전체 구조와 비슷한 형태로 끝없이 되풀이되는 것이다.
큰 나무를 보았을 때 줄기에서 큰 가지가 나오고 큰 가지에서 또 작은 가지가 뻗어 나오는 것과 같은데, 우주의 모든 것이 프랙털 구조로 되어 있다고 볼 수 있다.
프랙털은 ‘자기 유사성’과 ‘순환성’ 그리고, 질서가 있으나 혼란스러운 모습, 규칙적이지만 불규칙적이며 무작위적이라는 특징은 인간의 내면과 유사한 부분이 많다.
하루하루의 새로움을 갈망하고 특별함을 원하지만, 결국은 어제와 다르지 않은 하루가 반복되는 것을 표현하고자 한다. 이 특징들을 유리의 재료적 특성인 신비함, 맑음, 투시, 환상과 부합시켜 우리 스스로 인지하지 못하는 인간의 내면의 모습들을 작품으로써 전달하고 싶다.

Suh Seonguk

Introduction of Artist

He currently majors in glass art at the Cheongju University Graduate School. He first learned about glass art in 2017 and began working on it since 2018. Before then, he only worked with metal craft, but after seeing a glass kettle being made using the blowing technique during an undergraduate class, he began his work with glass art. His image of glass before was cold and hard, but this experience instilled in him the image of glass being hot and soft. He fell to the charm of glass art in which glass melted at 1,200 degrees can be handled like a toy.
He usually gains inspiration from the evening sunset, flowers blooming in fields, pebbles, curves of whales, and other types of nature for his works. He is inspired by the shapes and colors of nature such as the brilliance of various colors of the sunset and flowers, and the soft curves in the shapes of whales.

Introduction of Works

The concept of this piece is ‘fractal’. Fractal refers to structures in which a small structure continuously repeats in similar forms as the entire structure.
When looking at a large tree, there are large branches from the stem, and from those large branches sprout smaller branches. The entire universe can be deemed to have a fractal structure.
The features of fractal that have ‘self-resemblance’ and ‘circulation’, has order but is chaotic, and has rules but is irregular and random are similar to that of the inner world of humans.
The piece aimed at expressing people wanting something new and special every day, but end up spending the same day as they did yesterday. I wanted to conform these features to the material features of glass such as mystery, clear, penetration and illusion and show the inner world of humans that we are not conscience of through this piece.

이기훈

작가소개

현재 청주대학교 대학원 4학기 과정 중인 이기훈은 블로잉 기법을 주로 사용하고 있는 유리 공예가이다. 작품을 제작할 때 기존에 보지 못했던 본인만의 형태를 제작하려 하며, 그 작업 방식을 일상에서 찾고자 한다.
그는 작업 과정에서 생각지도 못한 우연의 효과를 보게 되었고 그 결과물은 마치 혈관이나 잎맥과 같은 줄기를 형상화한 듯했다. 유리 불기 과정에서 열로 인하여 자연스럽게 붙고 벌어지는 곡선들이 하나의 형태를 이루며 유리의 투명한 바탕보다는 유리실의 색감과 텍스처가 부각이 되었다. 이번 작업에서는 그 선을 중점으로 이야기를 풀어나가고자 한다.

작품소개

작품의 시리즈인 脈(줄기 맥)은 수많은 흐름이 상호작용을 이루어 어떠한 구조적인 성향을 유지한다는 의미를 내포하고 있다.
맥은 에너지가 공급될 수 있는 통로이며 순환을 돕는 역할을 하는데, 작게는 나뭇잎의 잎맥이, 크게는 지구의 수맥이 존재한다. 이 외에도 수많은 흐름이 존재하며
그 속에서 만물은 상호 관계를 이루고 있다. 인간 사회에서도 그러한 구조를 파악할 수 있다. 학연, 지연, 혈연 등으로 인맥이 형성되어 사회 전반에 그물처럼 퍼져있다. 이처럼 만물은 눈에 보이거나 보이지 않거나 흐름이 존재하고 그 흐름은 구조적인 성향을 유지해준다. 이러한 흐름의 중요성을 작품에 담아 관객에게 전달하고자 한다.

작가는 유리 불기 작업을 할 때 열로 인한 변화의 흐름을 상온에서 눈으로 쉽게 볼 수 있다는 것에 큰 매력을 느꼈다. 유리 불기 과정에서의 열로 인해 유연해진 유리실은 원심력에 의해 자연스럽게 붙고 벌어져 작품에 나타난 줄기와 같은 문양으로 연출된다. 문양의 재료로 쓰이는 유리실은 두 가지 색상으로 이루어져 색감과 선이 풍부해지는 효과를 얻을 수 있다. 형태는 바닥에서부터 전까지, 혹은 전에서 바닥까지 좁은 상태에서 넓어졌다 다시 좁아진다. 형태에서 보이는 문양의 수축과 팽창은 흐름 효과를 더욱 극대화하여 보여줄 수 있다.

Introduction of Artist

Lee KiHoon is currently in his fourth semester at the Cheongju University Graduate School and he is a glass artist that mainly uses the blowing technique.
He tries to create his own unique shapes that do not exist and he looks for the method of work in everyday life. During the course of his work, he witnessed the effects of unexpected coincidence, and the results seem like a representation of blood veins or leaf veins. The process of glass blowing involves bends that naturally attach and detach by the heat to create a single shape and the glass yarn’s colors and textures are highlighted more than the transparent base of glass. This work focused on these lines.

Introduction of Works

The series of the piece titled ‘Veins’ mean that numerous flows come together to make up a type of structure.
Veins are channels for supplying energy and it helps with circulation. It can be as small as veins in leaves and as big as the water veins of Earth. There are many other types of flows in addition to this, and everything interacts within this.
This structure is also found in human society. These veins can be found in human relations such as through schools, regions and kinships, and it spreads out across all of society. Thus, everything contains flows, whether visible or invisible, and this flow maintains structural tendencies. The importance of such flows was included in the work to give a message to the audience.

The author is greatly attracted to the fact that he can see the flow of changes caused by heat during glass blowing with his own eyes at room temperature. The glass yarn that became flexible due to the heat during the glass blowing procedure naturally attaches and detaches according to centrifugal force and creates patters like that of the stems shown in his work. The glass yarn used as materials for the patterns are made up of two colors, giving an effect of making the color and lines more abundant. The shape is narrow and widens and then again becomes narrow from the floor to the top or from the top to the bottom. The contraction and expansion of shapes seen in the shape can maximize the flow effect.

한국전통문화학교와 미국 알프레드 대학에서 도자를 전공하였다.
작가는 지난 10년 동아시아와 미국 여러 지역에 거주하며 매번 새로운 환경에 적응하고 스며드는 과정을 작업으로 표현하고자 한다. 현재 아치브래이 레지던시 입주 작가이다. 필라델피아 클레이 스튜디오, 조지아 주립대 등에서 비지팅 아티스트(visiting artist)로 활동하였으며, 2018년도 미국 <Ceramic monthly> 이머징 아티스트(emerging artist)로 선정되었다. 2019 경기세계도자비엔날레에서 입선을 비롯해 플로리다 펜서콜라 뮤지엄, NCECA, 아트 마이애미 등 국내외로 활발한 활동을 펼치고 있다.

Cross-Continental (con) Fusing: The Space Between Series
- 공간 속의 혼동

뒤틀리고 붕괴한 형체, 흘러내리는 유약, 재료를 균열시킨 표면은 과도하게 치장된 느낌을 준다. 오늘날, 모든 것들이 존재하는 현대 사회 속 끊임없이 펼쳐지는 욕망과 야망들에서 비롯된 갈증은 많은 사람이 짊어져야 할 무거운 짐이 되었다.

나의 작업은 서로 다른 개념을 잇는 다리를 짓는 것과 같은데, 다양한 사회 속에서 요구되는 사회적 욕구와 갈증을 추상적으로 혹은 관능적인 형태로 보여주며, 작품 간의 팽팽한 긴장감은 서로 다른 문화 사이에서 발견되는 유사성과 차이점, 개인과 집단들 사이의 틈 혹은 사이를 이어주는 느낌을 표현하고자 한다.

Introduction of Artist

She majored in ceramics at the Korea National University of Cultural Heritage and Alfred University in the USA.
She attempts to express her process of adapting and permeating into new environments in different parts of East Asia and the US where she lived in for the past 10 years. She is currently a resident artist at the Archie Bray Residency. She worked as a visiting artist at the Clay Studio in Philadelphia and at Georgia State University, and she was selected as an emerging artist in <Ceramic Monthly> in the US in 2018. She was awarded at the 2019 Korean International Ceramics Biennale, and she is also highly active both in Korea and abroad including places like the Pensacola Museum in Florida, NCECA, and Art Miami.

Cross-Continental (con) Fusing: The Space Between Series
– Chaos in Space

The twisted and crumbled forms, running enamel, and the surface that cracks the materials create an excessively ornamented feeling. In today’s world, the thirsts resulting from desires and ambitions that unfold ceaselessly in the modern society where everything exists have become a heavy burden that many people must carry.

My work is like building a bridge that connects these different concepts, and this shows the social desires and thirds required in various societies in an abstract or sensual manner. I tried to express the similarities and differences discovered in different cultures using the tight tension in the works or to bridge the gaps or spaces between individuals and groups.

작가소개

동물을 주제로 조형 작업을 하고 있다.
한적한 시골 동네에 살며 도자 작업을 하는 동시에 변해가는 자연을 보며 어떻게 하면 천천히 살아갈 수 있을까 고민한다. 생각을 표현하는데 바탕이 되어줄 재료로 도자라는 매체를 이용하여 지구 위에 존재하는 동물의 형상을 만들고, 그들을 통해 우리가 이 지구에서 자연의 일부로 자연스럽게 살아가고 있는지 한 번쯤 환기하게 되는 그런 작업을 하고 싶다.

작품소개

이번 프로젝트는 사람들이 쉽게 흥미를 느끼는 ‘동물’이라는 주제를 가지고 그 특징을 이용해 작품을 만드는 것이다. 마냥 귀엽다고 생각할 법한 오브제이지만, 사용하다 보면 어딘가 이상한 느낌이 든다. 어느새 동물들이 슬퍼 보인다. 이것이 내가 작품에 담아내고 싶은 느낌이다.

때로는 말보다 사물을 접했을 때 드는 순간의 감정이 더 크게 다가올 때가 있다. 우리가 마주하는 사물들 뒤에 어떤 희생이 있었는지 자각할 필요가 있다고 생각한다. 얼핏 보면 이상할 것 없는 자연의 모습이지만 사실 이것들은 모두 인간이 앉을 수 있는 의자의 형태를 하고 있다.

자연 속에서의 약육강식을 보고 우리는 자연스럽게 사슴이 불쌍하다 여기지만, 사실 이 동물들을 짓누르고 앉아있는 인간의 모습을 작품을 통해 표현하고자 했다. 매일의 삶에서 눈으로 보고 손으로 느끼는 사물에 동물의 형태를 담음으로써 위트 있게 표현하였지만, 한편으론 우리가 잊고 있었던, 진실로 생각해야 하는 가치를 담고자 한다. 이는 제한된 공간에서 정적으로 보이는 작품의 한계를 벗어나 실제 우리의 삶 속에서 사용 가능한 오브제로 존재함으로써 일방적인 외침이 아닌 적극적인 소통을 가능하게 해 줄 것으로 생각한다.

Introduction of Artist

I work with formative arts based on the theme of animals.
I think about how I can live in a quiet rural neighborhood and lead a slow life while I work with ceramics and the changing nature. I want to use the medium of ceramics with materials that serve as the basis for expressing thoughts to create images of animals that exist on earth, and through them, I want to do work that can make us think of how to live naturally as part of nature on Earth.

Introduction of Works

This project was on making artwork using the theme and features of ‘animals’ that people easily become interested in. It may be an objet that we think to simply be cute, but after using it for some time, it might begin to feel strange. Suddenly, the animals look sad. This is the feeling that I wanted to project in my works.

There are times when emotions are bigger when we come into contact with objects compared to words. I think it is necessary to think about what sacrifices were made behind the objects that we face. At a glance, it might seem very natural, but all of these are in the form of chairs that humans can sit on.

When we see the law of the jungle in nature, we might easily feel a sense of pity for deer, but I wanted to express humans sitting on and suppressing these animals. I smartly expressed what you see with your eyes and feel with your hands in everyday life by adding the shape of animals to objects, but I wanted to show the value that we may have forgotten, but which we should think about genuinely. I believe that this will make it possible to go beyond the limits of static artwork and exist as an objet that can be used in our actual lives, and thus allowing positive communication and not just one-sided shouting.
